For years, Google delivered these results based on the user's domain - meaning that someone using Google.co.uk would receive UK-flavored results, while someone using Google.com.au would be delivered Australian results.

But in October 2017, Google shook things up with a significant update to its search algorithm. The update marked a shift away from ccTLD-based results, instead relying on a user's IP-GEO-location to determine the most relevant results.

For most users, this change was seamless - people in Germany would use Google.de and have a German IP, while people in India would use Google.in and have an Indian IP.
